from the desert to the tundra

Ok so I am a bit dramatic but it is cold in Chicago yo! And as I was reminded today by a way too peppy friend it gets much colder here.  Thanks, joy kill: I love ya.untitled-246
But today I choose to revel in the fact that we had a fabulous time in the desert.  It was beautiful, hot, and refreshing to my soul to be around other folks trying to figure out life after Africa. It was a chance to look back as a family and take time to remember His goodness over our last four years.  And in the flood of the chaos of now remembering was oh so needed.  There is also something about looking at mountains that reminds you how small you are and how big God is.
One afternoon we had a few free hours and there was an option to go hiking.  Yes, Please!!
Evy made it walking "my own self" (with a little help, Ahem.) for a couple miles! Because we were a little slower Anni ran ahead with her new BFF and we did not see her for over an hour (but don't worry she filled us in on all of her awesome hiking endeavours when we reunited.)

Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
    the world, and all who live in it.
Let the rivers clap their hands,
    let the mountains sing together for joy;
let them sing before the Lord. Psalm 98:7-9
